On July 2, 2010, Chief Justice Charles T. Canady issued an Administrative Order establishing an Innocence Commission and naming members to it.
On July 14, 2010, the Chief Justice announced the appointment of former Monroe County Judge Lester A. Garringer, Jr., as executive director of the Commission. Read more.
Earlier, a group of Florida lawyers Petitioned the Supreme Court to create an Innocence Commission. In March 2010, the Court Denied the petition. A related letter to Sen. Mike Haridopolos was released. On May 24, 2010, the Court advertised for the position of Executive Director of the Commission.
