    Peggy A. Quince Elected to Become Florida's 53rd Chief Justice. The Justices have unanimously elected Quince to serve as the first African American woman to lead the state's Third Branch of government. Read more.

    Florida Mental Health Summit. Governor Charlie Crist and other state leaders met with Chief Justice R. Fred Lewis for a statewide mental health summit at the Supreme Court Building on November 14 at 1:00 p.m., at which time a comprehensive Report was released on how the justice system can best deal with the mentally ill.     04-26-2007 Mental Health Summit. Chief Justice R. Fred Lewis will attend a national summit on the growing problem of jailing the mentally ill and will hold a statewide summit on the issue this fall. Read more.
