Matthew Lee Caylor v. State of Florida

Mr. Caylor was convicted of the sexual battery and first-degree murder of a
13-year-old girl who was strangled in 2008. The jury voted 8-4 to recommend a
death sentence and the trial court condemned him. This is Mr. Caylor's direct
appeal. He raises various issues. |

Rayvon L. Boatman v. State of Florida

The state sought to have Mr. Boatman committed as a sexually violent predator
under the Jimmy Ryce Act following his scheduled release from prison. The state,
however, asked for a delay in the trial for civil commitment. Mr. Boatmen
opposed the delay. The trial court allowed the postponement and Mr. Boatmen
was committed. On appeal, the First District Court of Appeal agreed that the trial
court had erred in giving the state a postponement. But the 1st DCA also upheld
Mr. Boatman's commitment, concluding he had waited too long to appeal. |

Thomas Anthony Wyatt v. State of Florida

Mr. Wyatt was convicted of the first-degree murder of Cathy Nydegger, who was
fatally shot in 1988. The jury voted 11-1 to recommend a death sentence. The trial
court condemned Mr. Wyatt to death. This Court upheld the death sentence on
direct appeal and Mr. Wyatt filed a post-conviction challenge in trial court
attacking his conviction and sentence. It was denied and this appeal followed. |

unanimously to recommend a death sentence for each murder. The trial court

appeal and Mr. Wyatt filed a post-conviction challenge in trial court. It was
denied and this appeal followed. |

Property owned by Devon Neighborhood Association was damaged by a
hurricane. Devon received reimbursement for its claims but filed additional
claims. Devon and Florida Insurance Guaranty Association disagreed about the
claims and Devon went to court. FIGA asked for an appraisal of the damages
under the terms of the policy, but the trial court denied that request based on a
provision of a newly-enacted statute. The Fourth District Court of Appeal upheld
the trial court. FIGA asked for review in this Court on the issue of retroactive
application of the statute. |
